Who we are

Thanks for visiting our site. Our small personal practice is based in Durban and we’ve been practicing for over 12 years, and are extremely passionate about the work we do. The types of architecture we focus on is homes, community facilities, and industrial projects, but are always excited to take on new challenges with clients in all areas of Architecture. We use the latest advanced software ArchiCAD so that we can create 3D models for our clients, that are easy to read and understand. This makes the design process intuitive, this technology (referred to as BIM: building information modelling) allows us to prototype your project before we build it. This makes the construction way easier, and also eliminates some of the mistakes that used to happen with old school pen and paper drawings. All this makes for a better and more economical project.

Lloyd Northend

Lloyd Northend started his career in the United Kingdom, whereby he worked for the internationally renowned Architectural firm Donald Insall Associates for 3 years on some of the most prestigious heritage buildings and monuments in the UK. Here he gained invaluable experience and insight into the art of architectural detailing on grade 1 listed buildings (highest level of protection for Historical Buildings).

Lloyd later then took up a position in the multi award winning practice of John Robertson Architects from 2004 to 2007. At John Robertson Architects, Lloyd’s passion for residential architecture flourished, while working on large scale projects. It was here where Lloyd learned the high level of environmental detailing, which had to comply with British Environmental Standards (far more stringent than the South African counterpart).

Taking what he had learned in the United Kingdom, Lloyd returned to South Africa to pursue his dream of opening his own Architectural Practice.

Lloyd Northend Architects was established in 2007 and has gone from strength to strength, and to date has worked on Residential Developments, Freestanding Homes, Warehouses, Offices, Sports Stadiums, Lifeguard Facilities, Restaurants, Shops, Fire Stations, Lodges and Clinics.
